Foil wound transformers
Transformers for specific voltages, power ratings, and installationspaces.
Every transformer starts with a set of boundary conditions.
Power, voltage, frequency, environment, and available space together determine the final design.
In many projects, these boundary conditions are already fixed before a transformer is selected.
TRAFA designs and builds low-voltage transformers for applications where one or more of these factors deviate from standard solutions.
In doing so, we do not look for the nearest catalog solution, but for a technically feasible design that meets the project requirements.
Designed around your specification.
Our transformers are built based on the customer's electrical specification.
The following parameters, among others, can be included:
· Power ratings from a few VA to 1500 kVA;
· Frequencies from 50 Hz to 400 Hz;
· Primary and secondary voltages up to 1000 V;
· 1-phase and 3-phase systems;
· Standard and non-standard vector groups;
· Insulation classes B, F, and H;
· Natural or forced cooling;
· Indoor and outdoor installation.
Many requests start with a voltage diagram, an existing transformer, or a functional description of the installation.
Based on these starting points, we assess which technical solutions are possible.
Dimensions as a design parameter.
In many projects, the electrical specification is not the only determining factor.
Available height, width, depth, weight, or connection direction can also play an important role.
Because we dimension the core and windings on a project-by-project basis, these factors can be incorporated into the design from the very beginning.
This often results in more design freedom than with standard products.
Copper or aluminium
Depending on the application, both copper and aluminium can be used.
For higher power ratings, foil windings are frequently used due to their mechanical strength, good heat dissipation, and robust construction.
For other applications, wire winding may be the most suitable solution.
The choice of material and winding technique is determined by thetechnical requirements, available space, and economic considerations within the project.
From inquiry to production
Our clients are active in mechanical engineering, energy supply, the maritimesector, infrastructure, railway engineering, and industrial drives, among others.
Whether it concerns the replacement of an existing transformer, a new design,or an installation with non-standard voltages: we are happy to collaborate on a technically suitable solution within the specified constraints.
Do you already have a voltage diagram, power specification, or available installation space?
Then we can often quickly indicate the available options.
